All Philips Hue Serial Number Locations!

ALL PHILIPS HUE SERIAL NUMBERS

All Philips Hue products have serial numbers unique to each themselves. These serial numbers may turn out to be a surprise for you because you never expect them to be very useful. The fact is that serial numbers can come in handy sometimes. The serial numbers can be used to trace and detect Philips Hue light bulbs whenever the app is unable to detect them immediately. Checking for serial numbers may seem like a trivial task to you at first, but when you encounter a lightbulb that cannot be detected, you would be glad you knew where to find its serial number.

Where can I find the Philips Hue Serial Numbers? It depends. For light bulbs, the serial number is located at the bulb itself, on the side of its base. For light strips, the serial number is located at the RF box along with the cable. For light bars, the serial  number is imprinted on the manual.

In this article, we will go through the serial numbers of Philips Hue products, especially for light bulbs, light strips, and light bars. Serial numbers are very important for the aforementioned lighting devices because there are times when walls disrupt the connectivity of the bulbs and the hue bridge. By knowing the serial numbers of each bulb, you can easily detect it via the app on your smartphone.

Philips Hue Lightbulbs

Lightbulbs are the most prominent product line Philips Hue has in the market. From strictly white light bulbs to bulbs that can display that whole spectrum of colors, Philips Hue has it all and more. The light bulbs are also the product line that really needs the serial numbers because they can sometimes be undetectable.

Location of the Serial Number in Light bulbs

For lightbulbs, the serial number is quite easy to find. It is imprinted on the bulb itself, on the side of the base. Look for a six (6) digit code of number or letters that are indicated as a serial number or “serial no.”. The serial number can also sometimes be located on the box of the bulb itself.

The Importance of Serial Numbers to Light Bulbs

Philips Hue light bulbs are an innovative line of smart LEDs that are famous for its smart features, longevity, and wireless connections. The light bulbs are not connected by wires or cables to the dimmer switch because they can be controlled wirelessly. The wireless connection of all the bulbs is controlled by the Hue Bridge. However, there are times when the Hue bridge cannot automatically detect the light bulb or some of the lightbulbs.

To resolve this, the remedy would be to do a manual search of the light bulb through the Philips Hue smartphone app. By entering the serial number of a given light bulb in the smartphone app, the “missing” Philips Hue light bulb can now be detected. This is most especially common when the light bulbs are significantly distanced from the Hue bridge.

Manual Search of Light Bulbs

Your Philips Hue light bulbs should be within 40 to 60 feet of the Hue Bridge in order for it to be detected. However, there are times when thick walls and partitions make the connectivity issue present even as short as 30 feet from the Hue Bridge. This results in the undetected light bulbs that can be resolved by manual search with the help of the bulb’s serial number.

To do a manual search, use your smartphone Hue app and select “Light setup.” Proceed to click on the plus sign “+” on the bottom right of your screen. Type in your undetected light bulb’s serial number and click search. The app should be able to detect the specific bulb because each bulb has a unique serial number.

If you’re looking for the best value bulb starter pack or even if you own a few and want to expand your hue setup, then I’d recommend getting the Hue White and Color LED smart button starter kit.

Philips Hue Light Strips

Philips Hue Light strips are LED lights produced by Philips Hues. These LED lights are not light bulbs but are rather strips of flexible circuit boards that are lined by light-emitting diodes. Simply put, these are strips of board that can illuminate any surface to which they are attached.

Similar to the Philips Hue light bulbs, the light strips can be controlled through a smartphone app as long as a Hue Bridge links them. Therefore, to control the lights, you would need a Hue Bridge. Also similar to light bulbs, there are times when the Hue Bridge fails to automatically detect the light strip. A manual search by the help of the light strip’s serial number would be needed.

Location Of the Serial Number in Light Strips

The light strip’s serial numbers are not encrypted on a bulb because it does not have a bulb. Instead, you can find the serial number written on the rectangular box that runs along with the cord. The serial number would easily be distinguished because it is usually identified as such.

My go to variant of the hue light strip would be the 7ft base kit with 3ft extension.

Philips Hue Light Bars

The Philips Hue light bar is another smart LED device manufactured by Philips Hue. It is a lighting device that can be mounted on any wall or surface, whether upright or laid flat. However, the usual application of the device is in televisions and gaming sets, specifically PCs. The Philips Hue light bar is also commonly used in entertainment rooms and media rooms for its ambient lighting.

Like all smart LED products of Philips Hues, the light bars also have serial numbers that are handy whenever the light bar cannot be detected by the Hue Bridge. The Hue Bridge is needed to control the light bars because, like all Philips Hue lighting devices, it is also wireless. Therefore, connectivity to the Hue Bridge relies on wireless signals that are sometimes dampened by thick walls.

Location of the Serial Number in Light Bars

The serial number of Philips Hue light bars can easily be located on the instruction manual of the product. It is not written on the device itself because it might mess with the aesthetics of the light bar. So just scour over your often ignored instruction manual whenever you need to do a manual search for the light bar on your Hue app. This is where throwing away instruction manuals can be very burdensome.

Light bars are a steal at the $129 they are sold for in my opinion and were way more versatile because they can easily be moved around the home for creating different looks and moods. You can find them here.

Philips Hue Bloom

Philips Hue Bloom is a smart LED lamp produced by Philips Hue. It provides an accent of light with about 120 lumens of light output. It is the perfect smart LED table lamp for any kind of desk or table. It also offers the full spectrum of colors that you can easily change with the help of your Hue Bridge and the Hue app.

Like all wireless LED lights, there are times when the Philips Hue Bloom cannot be automatically detected by the Hue Bridge. This will force you to do a manual search in the Hue app using the bloom’s serial number. Thus, knowing where the serial number of Philips Hue Bloom is also very important.

Location of the Serial Number in Philips Hue Bloom

Similar to the lightstrip and the lightbulbs of Philips Hue, the serial number of the Philips Hue Bloom can be found on the device itself. The lighting device is mounted on a built-in stand, and underneath the stand, you can find the serial number. It can be easily spotted because it is written on a silver label.

Philips Hue Iris

Philips Hue Iris is another smart LED table lamp. Like all smart LED table lamps, it can provide ambient lighting that lifts up the aesthetics of not just the table, but also the room. It may not illuminate the whole room, as it was not created for such purpose, but it can set up the mood with its vibrant colors.

Location of the Serial Number in Philips Hue Iris

Like the Philips Hue Bloom, the serial number of Philips Hue Iris is also located at the bottom of the lighting device. Just check for the silver labeled serial number at the bottom of the Philips Hue Go. Once you found it, just input the serial number on the Hue app, and you can easily detect your Philips Hue Go to your Hue Bridge.

Philips Hue Go

The Philips Hue Go is also a table lamp that is quite similar to the Philips Hue Bloom. The difference between the two is that the Philips Hue Go has no stand. Instead, you can erect it on its own even though it does not have a stand. It produces a brighter light output than the Bloom, usually just around 520 lumens.

Location of the Serial Number in Philips Hue Go

Unlike the Philips Hue Bloom, the serial number of the Philips Hue Go is located not at the bottom of the lighting device. It is written on a sticker near the power jack. Once you found it, just input the serial number on the Hue app, and you can easily detect your Philips Hue Go to your Hue Bridge.

Conclusion

Your Philips Hue Products come with a serial number that might come handy whenever undetectable light devices hamper the installation process. The standard distance between the lighting device and the Hue bridge is 40 to 60 feet for easy connectivity. However, most houses have thick walls that may surprisingly cause some light bulbs, light strips, etc. to be undetectable to the Hue bridge.

Always remember that with any Philips Hue lightbulb, the serial number can be located at the side of the bulb’s base. For light strips, the serial number is located in the rectangular box that runs along with the cord. For lightbars, the serial number will be indicated on the instruction manual that comes along with the product box.

For table lamps, like Philips Hue Go, Bloom, and Iris, the serial number is on the bottom of the lighting device. Once you have encountered an “undetectable” lighting device,  you will realize that your serial number can come really handy.
